Georgetown loses in shootout against Greater Lawrence

GEORGETOWN — The Georgetown football team dropped to 0-2 after falling to Greater Lawrence 32-25 on Saturday.

Georgetown responded to an 8-0 deficit with 11 straight points, first on a 35-yard field goal by Pat Bjork and then on an 8-yard run by Robert Dimento, which was set up by a 46-yard run by multi-talented senior quarterback Colby Ingraham on the previous play.

The Reggies went up 30-11 at halftime, but the Royals pulled to within one score late in the fourth quarter. The Georgetown defense had four interceptions — including three to the nifty Ingraham — and caused a fumble on the fifth possession in the second half.

All the turnovers eventually came back to hurt Greater Lawrence as Ingraham scored on 39 and 7-yard-yard runs, the final coming one play after a 38-yard Ingraham pass to Bjork, making the score 32-25 with 3:16 to play.

Following the first Ingraham TD run, the Reggies picked up two pivotal points when Shane Dunn intercepted a conversion pass and brought it back all the way.

After the second Ingraham TD, Greater Lawrence seemed to clinch the win when Isaiah Roman made a nice initial cut and returned the ensuing kickoff 72 yards for an apparent TD. But he was whistled for premature celebration, disallowing the score.

After that, Greater Lawrence was able to run out the clock to even its record at 1-1.

For the Royals, who got a strong defensive game from Matt Prescott, Ingraham was all over the field. He ran the ball for 121 yards and two TDs on just 10 carries, passed for 129 yards, had the three interceptions. He also made at least two TD-saving tackles and had two kickoff returns of over 35 yards.

Said Georgetown coach Paul Sobolowski: “We’re young and we’re going to make mistakes, but you saw that there’s no quit in these kids. I think we can win some games.”
