Defending CAL champ Triton opens season with win

Ice Hockey

Triton 1, Medford 0

The Vikings opened their season with a victory Saturday. This year’s nonleague matchup with Medford resulted in a much closer game than last season, when the Vikings won 9-0.

Lynn 4, Pentucket 2

Patrick Slack and Ian Mitchell scored goals for Pentucket. Brendan Moynihan and Branscom Dubina had assists.

Amesbury 5, Minuteman Tech 0

Anthony Licciardello had a hat trick for Amesbury. Evan King had his first varsity shutout. Amesbury outshot Minuteman 47-10.

Wrestling

Wakefield Invitational

The Pentucket Sachems competed at the Wakefield Invitational Wrestling Tournament over the weekend and placed eighth out of 16 teams. Tom Funk (120 lbs.) and Josh Wesolowski (132 lbs.) both took second place, Mike McCarron (170 lbs.) and Sean Clohisy (195 lbs.) earned fourth-place finishes, and Jeff Funk (145 lbs.) placed fifth. Garrett Lischke (106 lbs.) registered his first career pin during the tournament.

Marlboro Invitational

The Triton Vikings competed at the Marlboro Invitational over the weekend and placed sixth out of 18 teams. Wrestling for the Vikings were Brody Johnson (106 lbs.; 0-2), Victor Ramirez (120 lbs.; 3-1; 2nd place), Josh Misiano (126 lbs.; 1-2); Cody Nixon (132 lbs.; 4-2; 5th place), Luke Boyle (138 lbs.; 3-1; 2nd place), Jared Stanley (145 lbs.; 1-2), Tom Howell (152 lbs.; 1-2), Mark Boyle (160 lbs.; 5-1; 3rd place), and Dave Manning (220 lbs.; 2-3; 6th place).

“The kids wrestled well this weekend,” said Triton coach Shawn McElligott. “Victor Ramirez wrestled one of his best tournaments of his career, only losing 9-1 to Peter Robinson of St. John’s of Shrewsbury, a returning All-State finalist. Luke Boyle wrestled a great semifinals match to win 10-7 to make the finals, eventually losing 7-2 to Pat O’Connell of Hudson, a multiple state-placer. Mark Boyle had a long and tough day, but was very impressive when after losing a tight semifinal match 6-4 to Dave Rogers of Hudson, he came back to pin Jared O’Brien of Woburn for third place.”

Girls Indoor Track

Mass. State Coaches Winter Festival

Marissa Porter had Pentucket’s top finish, placing second in the 600 meters (1:44.38). Chase Marcotte placed fifth in the 55-meter hurdles (9.50). Pentucket’s 4x400 relay team of Grace Dore, Haley Pratt, Kristin Fitzgerald and Paige Wesolowski placed sixth (4:36.41), as did Tyler Fenney in the high jump (4-10).

Boys Basketball

Pentucket 60, Masconomet 55

Calvin Wiles had 18 points for Pentucket. Jake Chory added 15.

Amesbury 47, Ipswich 38

Tommy Connors led all scorers with 16 points, including nine in the fourth quarter. Devlin Gobeil added 12 points and seven assists. Jack Fortin had six points and five rebounds.
