“I think the Lynnfield team spent the entire game trying to cover her,” Georgetown coach Dave Tucker said. “They played in her shirt the entire night. She still came up with 19 points.”
Hogan was an eighth-grader at Georgetown Middle School when the high school program’s last 1,000-point scorer, Taryn O’Connell, was a senior. Hogan traveled with the 2009 team to a state-championship game at the Garden, a game that Georgetown lost. O’Connell finished tops in program history with 1,526 points.
“When they went to the Garden, I was in eighth grade, and I moved up,” Hogan said. “I learned from Taryn to work hard. She was one of the hardest-working people I’ve ever met.”
Hogan has started since her freshman year, logging close to 300 points in each of her first two years playing varsity. Last year, she had closer to 400 points, according to Tucker, many of which came behind the 3-point arc.
“She’s a pure shooter, as you could see,” Tucker said. “What separates her is her focus,” Tucker said. “The kid is focused 100 percent of the time. You can see in a game when she’s shooting how focused she is.”
Hogan suffered a right knee injury during the soccer season in the fall. She wears a black brace on the knee, and she appeared to be in pain at different points last evening.
“I hurt my knee in soccer, but I’m going to keep playing,” Hogan said. “I decided I was going to play. I lost cartilage in my knee. After the basketball season, I’ll have surgery. But I’m playing the whole season.”
