Pentucket girls track team finishes 9-1

The Sachems clinched the Cape Ann League title by beating Saugus and Triton. Against Triton, Pentucket coach Steve Derro saw strong first-place performances by Emma Marchant in the 2-mile (12:28.80), Jenny Marra in the shot put (30-2), Maddie Nelson in the 300 meters (48.0), Paige Wesolowski in the 600 meters (1:50.7) and Maddie Nelson, Jennie Nelson, Grace Dore, Paige Wesolowski in the 4x400 (4:32.3).

Against Saugus, Tyler Feeney won the 40-meter hurdles (6.0), while Marra won the shot put. The mile race was run by Kasey Mann (6:00), while the 2-mile was won by Marchant. Brooke Chambers, Charlotte Merritt and Katryn Dwyer tied for first in the 40-yard dash, finishing in 5.6 seconds. The 300 meters was won by Nelson, the 600 by Wesolowski and Pentucket’s 4x400 team came out on top again.

“I couldn’t be any prouder of all my girls,” Derro said. “They had an outstanding meet today. Both teams fought extremely hard and deserved to win. I’m very happy for my seniors who finish their regular season on such a high note.”

For Triton, Kerstin Darsney won the hurdles (6.0) and high jump (4-10). Nikki Hepp (dash, 5.5), Maddie Quigley (1,000, 3:28.0) and Jess Savage (mile, 5:54) won individual events for the Vikings.

Brandon Duford won the hurdles (5.9) and high jump (5-6) for Triton. Austin Stevens (mile, 5:42) and Mark Theberge (shot put, 40-10) also won their individual events.
