Newburyport (9-8) overcame an 0-6 start to the season to qualify for the state tournament in the closing week. Mike Sweeney (30 points), Brendan Crowther (28), Travis Koocher (26), Kyle Bushnell (26) and Griffin Brown (20) paced the Clippers.
“This is an awesome victory for a great bunch of players who hung together even when we were 0-6,” Newburyport coach Steve Malenfant said. “They have tremendous character and have shown that all season.”
Triton 141, Pentucket 116
Jon Seward led Triton (15-5) with 26 points. Kyle Hillick (24), Jack Cook (23), Mike Shay (23) and Ryan Perilli (23) also contributed for the Vikings. Krystal Knight led Pentucket with 26 points.
