Amesbury softball team clinches CAL Division 2 title


Amesbury 7, Lynnfield 3

The Indians (14-1 overall, 11-1 CAL) clinched the Cape Ann League Division 2 title with the victory. Ashley Valme had two doubles and two RBI. Alex Boswell had two hits, including a triple, and scored two runs. Amanda Schell had two hits, two RBI, three stolen bases and two runs.

Gabe Pacione CAL Scholarship

Nine outstanding senior cross-country and track and field stars have been nominated for the fifth annual Gabriel Pacione Cape Ann League Scholarship, honoring the memory of the former Hamilton-Wenham superstar runner. Sarah Duffy of Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School; Sarah Keiran of Ipswich High School; Jake Moorman of Masconomet Regional High School; Lexi Buonfiglio of Lynnfield High School; Jennifer Crawford of North Reading High School; Renee Vigneault of Amesbury High School; Joseph Santo of Newburyport High School; Marissa Porter of Pentucket Regional High School; and Elise Mitchell of Triton Regional High School were nominated by their coaches as being accomplished student-athletes who lead by example and whose performances and sportsmanship encourage and inspire others. Good sportsmanship and employing the power of teamwork in competition were also critical factors in choosing these student-athletes.

The Gabriel Pacione Scholarship will be awarded to the winning student-athlete on Saturday at the Cape Ann League Outdoor Track and Field Championships at North Reading High School. Previous winners include Samantha Brown of Ipswich (2012) and Alison Lanois (2011), Jackson MacDonald (2010) and Emily Lanois (2009), all from Hamilton-Wenham Regional.

Girls Outdoor Track

Triton 92, Lynnfield 52

Kerstin Darsney won four events for Triton (2-6) — the long jump (14-3), triple jump (32-10), 100 (13.2) and 200 (27.3). Katie O’Neill won the javelin (92-5) and shot put (24-11). Audrey Martin (high jump, 4-6), Abby Ostrander (discus, 77-2), Laura Frackiewicz (400, 1:02.9), the 4x100 relay team of Ashley O’Neill, Jackie Robert, Shauna Murrin and Kiandra White; and the 4x400 relay team of Robert, Frackiewicz, Brianna Ramirez and Elise Mitchell also placed first.

Boys Outdoor Track

Lynnfield 83, Triton 62

Mike Theberge won the triple jump (37-11), 110 hurdles (17.1) and high jump (5-6) for Triton (1-7). Connor Barry won the 100 (11.1), 200 (23.8) and long jump (17-2). Brandon Duford won the 400 hurdles (1:03.1).

Girls Tennis

North Reading 4, Triton 1

Kaley Towns won at first singles (6-2, 6-2) for Triton.

Girls Lacrosse

Manchester Essex 14, Newburyport 13

Manchester Essex (14-2) held its position as the top team in Cape Ann League Division 2. The Clippers (9-6) fell two games behind Masconomet in the CAL Division 1 standings.
