Newburyport clinches tourney berth with win


Newburyport 3, Pentucket 1

Newburyport (10-7) clinched a state-tournament berth with the victory. Colby Morris had a two-run double for the Clippers in the third inning. Freshman Scott Webster also collected an RBI, which plated Chance Carpenter. Connor MacRae earned the win, posting six strikeouts.

Amesbury 6, Georgetown 4

Adam Ivancic was 1 for 3 with two runs scored for Amesbury (9-9). Zach Fitzgerald and Devlin Gobeil each went 1 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored. Tommy Connors was 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Andy Reidy was 1 for 3 with two RBI. Fitzgerald also earned the win. He pitched five innings, allowing give hits, three walks and recorded one strikeout. Reidy logged a two-inning save.


Longtime Newburyport resident Paul Fallon was inducted to the Arlington Catholic High Hall of Fame April 6. He was a member of the 1978 team that won a state championship.

Girls Lacrosse

Newburyport 16, Triton 7

Kate McCauley and Julia Kipp scored four goals each for Newburyport (11-6). Ali Peffer had two goals and six assists. Brenna Williams added two goals. Meri Adsit, Kelly Conway, Olivia Kearney and Livie Couturier scored a goal each.

Boys Tennis

Triton 5, Wilmington 0

Travis Mihalchik (6-2, 3-6, 6-0), John DiDonato (6-4, 6-1) and Andrew McGrath (6-3, 3-6, 6-2) won singles matches for the Vikings (6-8). Henrik Jankowski and Matt Faulkner (7-5, 6-2) won at first doubles. Devon Shuman and Nico Marcolini won their second doubles match in a third-set tie-break (10-5).

Girls Tennis

Ipswich 4, Amesbury 1

Hayley Buonodono and Emily Myer won their second doubles match in three sets for Amesbury (6-11).

Pentucket 5, Rockport 0

Coli Downey (6-0, 6-1), Rachel Darke (6-4, 6-4) and Boo Torrisi (6-1, 6-1) won singles matches for Pentucket (6-8). Anna Quattrini and Beebe Jackson won at first doubles (6-3, 6-1). Megan Migliozzi and Maddie Torrisi won at second doubles (6-4, 6-1).

Boys Lacrosse

Georgetown 9, Danvers 7

Jacob Mitchell had four goals and an assist for Georgetown. Nick DePasquale tallied two goals and an assist. Neil Murphy had a goal and two assists. Sam Mitchell scored two goals. Scott Perry had an assist. Joe Mangano made 12 saves.
