Vikes pay back Wakefield; Sachems earn dual-meet trifecta

Georgetown/Ipswich 21

Ramses Medrano (106 lbs; fall at :21; first varsity win), Brody Johnson (113 lbs; won by forfeit), Victor Ramirez (120 lbs; fall), Mark Rosmarinofski (126 lbs; fall at :42), Cody Nixon (132 lbs; major decision 12-1), Luke Boyle (138 lbs; fall at :26), Jesse Caldwell (152 lbs; fall), and Mark Boyle (160 lbs; fall at 1:15) were winners for the Vikings.

“It was good to get our first league win of the year,” said Triton coach Shawn McElligott. “Victor Ramirez got a big victory over Charlie Galanis who wrestled in the All-States last year. Cody Nixon wrestled his best match of his career with a huge win over Dave Ingraham. The same can be said for Jesse Caldwell, who fought off his back and got a huge win.”

Triton 39, Wakefield 27

Ramses Medrano (113 lbs; fall at :34), Victor Ramirez (120 lbs; fall at :26), John Boyle (126 lbs; fall at 1:05), Cody Nixon (132 lbs; won by forfeit), Jesse Caldwell(145 lbs; won by decision 6-4), Nate Eastabrook (152 lbs; fall at 1:46; first varsity win), Mark Boyle (170 lbs; fall at :32) were victorious for Triton.

“This was a big win for us beating the defending Division III North Sectional Champions,” said McElligott. “The kids really wanted this after just losing the title to them last year. Jesse Caldwell wrestled very well again and held on for a key victory, winning 6-4.”

Norton 43, Triton 30

Victor Ramirez (120 lbs; decision at 11-4), John Boyle (126 lbs; fall at :55), Cody Nixon (132 lbs; fall at 1:28), Luke Boyle (138 lbs; fall at 2:55), Mark Boyle (160 lbs; decision 5-0), and Ramses Medrano (106 lbs; won by forfeit) were triumphant for the Vikings (1-1 CAL, 5-3 overall).

“We wrestled really well, and just lost to the defending Division 3 State champions,” said McElligott. “I was very impressed with Mark Boyle who beat Jack Cuneo, who competed in the All States last year. Overall, we got a lot of kids back, they wrestled very well, and it was a great weekend.”

Pentucket 60, Everett 12

The Pentucket Sachems won three dual-meets at home on Saturday. Tom Funk, Josh Wesolowski, Kevin Clark, Jeff Funk, Noah Mahli, Mike McCarron, and Sean Closhisy all won by fall for the Sachems (4-4) against Everett.

Pentucket 39, Hudson 21

Nikola Crawford (113 lbs; won by forfeit), Tom Funk (120 lbs; fall at 1:44), Kevin Clark (138 lbs; fall at 1:24), Jeff Funk (145 lbs; fall at 0:39), Brett Connelly (152 lbs; fall at 1:01), Noah Mahli (160 lbs; fall at 0:39), and Mike McCarron (182 lbs; decision 8-5) were winners for Pentucket.

“Pivotal matches for Pentucket included Brett Connelly’s pin at 152 pounds, and the performance of Josh Wesolowski at 132 pounds,” said Sachems assistant coach Steve Beaudoin. “Josh lost 9-8 to his opponent from Hudson, a wrestler who is currently the top ranked Division 3 wrestler in the weight class.”

Pentucket 37, Haverhill 33

Garrett Lischke (106 lbs; fall at 0:53), Tom Funk (120 lbs; major decision 12-0), Josh Wesolowski (132 lbs; decision 10-8), Kevin Clark (138 lbs; fall at 3:43), Jeff Funk (145 lbs; won by forfeit), and Mike McCarron (170 lbs; fall at 1:50) were the victors for the Sachems.

“Key matches for this meet included Kevin Clark’s third pin of the day, and Brett Connelly’s inspirational efforts at 152 lbs,” said Beaudoin.
