Newburyport escapes Gloucester with victory


In the third period, though, the Clippers reverted to their first-period form. Again, Buckley was there to bail them out -- outside of a flukey goal from Gloucester’s Alex Enes that rattled in off the endboards in the final minute.

Hannah Canning had nine points for Triton. Christine Ciccone added six points. Nicole Sullivan collected seven rebounds and eight steals.

Whittier 63, Newburyport 55

Emily Pettigrew led Newburyport with 15 points, seven rebounds and four blocks. Aly Leahy added 14 points, five rebounds and five assists for the Clippers (5-6). Mary Pettigrew had 13 points, four rebounds and three steals.
