Field hockey capsules

Amesbury Indians

Coach: Bethany Williams Noseworthy (second season)

Last year: 3-11-5

Key returning players: Anna Kate Webber, sr.; Ali French, sr.; Nicole Pouria, sr.; Amanda Beecy, sr.

Newcomers: Amanda Schell, fr.; Cassie Schultz, soph.; Vanessa LeBlanc, jr.

Strengths: Strong work ethic, desire and commitment to each other.

Concerns: Maximizing inexperienced players.

First game: Today at Pentucket, 3:45 p.m.

Coach's outlook: "Our preseason was very strong, and the girls showed a lot of potential in scrimmages. The camaraderie between players is very strong and has been instrumental in our playing as a team immediately this season. I look forward to the leadership from our seniors and watching the girls achieve goals they have each set for themselves, and I hope to continue to grow and learn from my team and fellow coaches in the league."

Georgetown Royals

Coach: Nichole Turcotte (fifth season)

Last year: 2-13-2

Key returning players: Melanie Prior, sr.; Jessie Denoncour, sr.; Kristen Pingree, sr.; Amy Cronin, jr.; Sara Gaeta, jr.; Nikkie Perakis, jr.; Lauren Hanlon, sr.; Samantha Franseconi, sr.

Newcomers: Amanda Conti, sr.; Megan Harney, sr.; Victoria Woods, sr.; Erin Flaherty, sr.

Strengths: Strong line of forwards and midfielders who have the ability to score.

Concerns: One returning defensive player.

First game: Today against North Reading, 3:45 p.m.

Coach's outlook: "The team's overall goal for the season is to be successful and make it to playoffs."

Newburyport Clippers

Coach: Lauren Hefferan (5th season)

Last year: 11-7-4 (3rd round of tournament, lost to eventual state champs, Watertown)

Key returning players: Haley Johnson, sr. (captain); Cassaundra Davis, sr. (captain); Mackenzie Maguire, sr. (captain); Molly Rowe, jr.; Kelsey Crowley, jr.; Kendra Dow, soph.; Paige Hefferan, soph.

Newcomers: Avery Hines, sr. (captain); Lea Tomasz, soph.; Hannah Carroll, jr.; Kate MacCauley, soph.

Strengths: Midfield, team spirit, and strong upperclassman leadership.

Concerns: Low numbers. Small bench and only one returning varsity back and forward.

First game: Today at North Andover, 3:45 p.m.

Coach's outlook: "I am very pleased at the leadership of our upperclassman and their welcoming personalities and positive attitudes. The older girls are really pushing the underclassmen with their skills and their conditioning, and I feel if we can stay injury free, we will be a team to contend with this year. The girls are really wishing we could be CAL league champs. We have to get some more goal scorers to accomplish that, but we can if the girls get more aggressive in front of the net."

Pentucket Sachems

Coach: Ruth Beaton (17th season)

Last year: 4-12-3

Key returning players: Bernadette Corrado, sr.; Shannon Beaton, jr.; Charlotte Pope, jr.; Laura Kuchar, sr.; Mimi Auger, sr.; Hannah Wilkins, sr.; Hannah Coggins, sr.; Kylie O'Malley, sr.; Cayla Maclean, jr.; Liz Beauregard, jr.; Molly Sanford, jr.

Newcomers: Olivia Duggan, soph.; Tori Spofford, soph.; Liz Jayne, soph.; Molly McDonough, jr.; Tayla Poretta, jr.; Caroline Kern, sr.; Julianne Meehan, sr.

Strengths: Athleticism. Faster and stronger than in previous seasons.

Concerns: Intensity and goal scoring.

First game: Today against Amesbury, 3:45 p.m.

Coach's outlook: "Obviously to continue to improve with each game and practice. Our ultimate goal is to return to postseason play. There is already a sense of unity amongst these girls, which usually doesn't develop until later in the season. It is my hope that this cohesiveness will help to generate at least nine wins this season."

Triton Vikings

Coach: Donna Andersen (16th season)

Last year: 5-9-3

Key returning players: Sara Nardone, sr.; Colleen Mills, sr.; Brooke Jamison, sr.; Erin Curley, sr.; Collette Newcombe, jr.; Erin O'Leary, jr.

Newcomers: Jacqui Short, sr.; Lauren Bassett, sr.; Kristen Robert, sr.; Jen Delaney, jr.; Lauren Robert, jr.; Anastasia Small, fr.; Michaela Dunn, fr.; Samantha MacDonald, soph.

Strengths: Front line experience and strong goaltending.

Concerns: Defense and midfield play has little varsity experience.

First game: Today at Wilmington, 6 p.m.

Coach's outlook: "We will have to take one game at a time and see how we step up to the challenge of playing as a team at the varsity level. My outlook at this point is that we will all need to put in the effort to be competitive in this league."
