---- — Jaycie Triandafilou is averaging two goals per game for the Newburyport girls soccer team through the first week of the season.

The Clippers striker capped off a jaw-dropping opening week with three goals and an assist yesterday against Saugus, giving her six goals and an assist in Newburyport’s first three games. Perhaps uncoincidentally, the Clippers are off to a 3-0 start.

Newburyport coach Robb Gonnam credits Triandafilou’s commitment to the weight room over the summer for her recent scoring outburst.

“She’s the smallest kid on the team, but she plays as if she’s 6-foot-6,” Gonnam said. “She has the best elevation on the team. She was in the weight room all summer, and you can really see the difference. Nobody can knock her off the ball, and that’s what it takes to play in college.”

This week’s Daily News Player of the Week answered a few questions following yesterday’s game.

Are you surprised by your start to the season?

“Yes, I am very surpised. I was hoping for a great season since it’s my senior year. I didn’t think I would come out this strong, though.”

What has been the key to all of the goals?

“I don’t know. I think I’ve just been motivating myself. I know it’s the last year before college, and I might play at that level. I figured I had to step up more.”

Do you have any plans for college yet?

“Not yet. I’m thinking about playing, but I’m not quite sure. If not for a team, I’d definitely like to play intramural.”

Are you doing anything different on the field this year?

“Not really. I’ve played soccer my whole life. I have a passion for it.”What’s your career highlight?

“Last year, I was All-League and All-Eastern Mass. That was a big step for me; it showed how much potential I really had. Being a captain junior and senior year has also been a highlight.”

Who is your favorite athlete?

“Alex Morgan from the United States National Team.”

What is your favorite sports team?

“I don’t really have one. I guess I’d say the Bruins, Patriots and Red Sox.”

What is your ideal pregame meal?

“Something light. I usually chew on an apple on the bus. Then something salty like Wheat Thins so I don’t get dehydrated.”

What is your favorite pregame song?

“‘Til I Collapse,” by Eminem.”

What type of cleats do you wear?“Nike 4.0.”
