From Amesbury onward
Six players from last year’s Cape Ann League champion Amesbury girls soccer team have continued their careers at the college level. Those players include Erin Leary (Westfield State University), Megan Cullen (Lasell College), Natalie Dawes (Nichols College), Emily Martin (Colby-Sawyer College), Janine Fatal (Worcester Polytechnic Institute) and Hannah Zannini (Westfield State University).
The Governor’s Academy girls soccer team is off to a 6-0-2 start to the season after finishing 16-0-2 last year. The Govs, who have won back-to-back New England titles, have one local player in Mattea Preece, a junior central midfielder from Georgetown.
Beaton bolsters Bates
Pentucket Regional High alumna Shannon Beaton lifted the Bates College field hockey team Saturday with two goals and an assist in her team’s 4-1 victory over Babson College in Lewiston, Maine. Beaton, the daugher of Pentucket field hockey coach Ruth Beaton, scored the game-winning goal and an insurance goal late in the second half for the Bobcats (4-7).
Two more goals for Davis
Newburyport High alumna Cassaundra Davis scored two goals for the St. Michael’s College field hockey team in a 4-0 victory over Franklin Pierce Oct. 9, giving her eight goals for the season.
Triton Regional High alumnus Andrew Fecteau had the UMass Lowell golf team’s best performance at the University of Connecticut Cup Monday and Tuesday at the Ellington Ridge Country Club. Fecteau carded rounds of 78, 77 and 74 (229), placing in a tie for 25th.
Gagnon’s record run
Nock Middle School sixth-grader Lucy Gagnon broke the middle-school course record Thursday at Maudslay State Park. Gagnon finished in 12:43, smashing the previous record by seven seconds.
The Newburyport field hockey team will have Senior Night on Wednesday at Amesbury Sports Park. The team’s game against Triton starts at 7 p.m. The Newburyport girls and boys soccer teams will have Senior Night next Friday at World War Memorial Stadium. Both teams will play Triton; the girls game will start at 5 p.m., and the boys game will follow.
