---- — Pat Scanlon may never run a more joyous 100-yard dash.

The Amesbury defensive back returned an interception 100 yards last night to ice a 28-21 victory over Weston in a Division 4 non-playoff contest. With Amesbury clinging to a 21-14 lead in the fourth quarter, and Weston driving inside the Indians’ 5-yard-line, Scanlon jumped a pass on the goal line and returned it for a touchdown.

“We played real tough,” Amesbury coach Thom Connors said. “I’m really happy with the win. They’re a Dual County League team, so this was really nice to go down here and beat them.”

Amesbury quarterback Mac Short rushed for two touchdowns. Ben Cullen and Ryan Foley split the rushing duties for the Indians, keeping the Weston defense off balance.

Amesbury responded to a 7-0 deficit to tie the game 7-7 before halftime. The Indians scored on their first two offensive possessions in the third quarter, bringing their lead to 21-7. Weston scored on the final play of the third quarter to set up Scanlon’s dramatic moment.
