Sophomore Sara Auwerda runs in the No. 3 spot on the Triton girls cross country team, which hosted Manchester Essex and North Andover this afternoon. Along with her brother, Zack Auwerda, who runs on the Triton boys team, she is part of an "All in the Family"-style team, which also includes twins Erin and Colleen Loughlin competing out of the No. 1 and 2 positions.
The Daily News recently caught up with Auwerda for a question-and-answer session.
How do you like running on the same team as your brother?
"I like it; it's a lot of fun. We don't really compete because he would win."
When did you start running cross country?
"This year. I didn't really know about it last year."
Do you find it interesting that the Loughlin twins always finish within a few seconds of each other?
"I never see them finish. I guess they usually tie."
What's the best part of a cross country race?
"I like the people, and I love running. So the whole thing is fun to me."
Is cross country a popular sport at Triton?
"No, actually it's not popular. There are only about 10 girls on the team."
What's your goal for the season?
"Just to catch up with the Loughlins."
Do you train with them?
"Some days I can stay with them. Others I can't."
Do you think you can run as fast as them by your senior year?
"I don't know. I hope I'm a lot faster than I am now."
What's your favorite subject in school?
"English because it's the easiest for me."
What's your favorite television show?
"I usually don't watch anything specific. Whatever my family's watching is what I watch."
What's the last book you read?
"Of Mice and Men."
What's your pre-race snack?
"I eat spaghetti every time before I run."
Obama or McCain?
"I like Obama because he's more honest than the other side. But I can't say for sure because I don't watch enough coverage."
What's your favorite song on your iPod?
"Bleed Together by Soundgarden."
