The state has a huge appetite for booze, cigs and gasoline, or so said the newspaper on this day in 1961. State Tax Commissioner Guy Rizzotto made public the Massachusetts annual consumption figures: 686 million packs of cigarettes, 81 million gallons of beer, 6 million gallons of hard liquor and 1.4 billion gallons of gasoline.
