Holiday tradition

The Methuen Ballet Ensemble will perform its annual production of “The Nutcracker” on Saturday at 3 and 7 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Firehouse Center for the Arts in Newburyport’s Market Square.

Members of the ensemble dance the principal roles, with other roles performed by students of Voter’s School of Dance, Helene Joy School of Dance and Dance Concepts.

St. Nick sails in

Santa Claus is coming to town this Sunday to officially kick off the holiday season, arriving with Mrs. Claus at the Newburyport boardwalk by Coast Guard boat around 3:30 p.m.

The pair will then lead a parade through downtown Newburyport before gathering the crowd in Market Square for the annual Christmas tree lighting and carols at approximately 4 p.m.

The festivities are sponsored by the Greater Newburyport Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the Rotary Club of Newburyport.

In good voice

A Newburyport singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist is celebrating his new album with a release party on Friday.

Roger Ebacher, a fixture of the local music scene for decades, is launching “Local Vocal,” a career-spanning collection of old and new original songs, as well as a few covers. His work covers a variety of styles, including jazz, fusion, Brazilian, Afro-Cuban, reggae, Latin jazz, flamenco and African.

The event will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. at Dyno Records, 1 Middle St., Newburyport.
