Local flavor
A celebration of music, art, food, beer and more created by Newburyporters is set for Saturday at The Tannery Marketplace.
The second annual we=nbpt Winter Festival will run from 1 to 8 p.m. in a heated tent in the parking lot at 50 Water St., Newburyport. Local musicians will play, while artists will display, sell and — in some cases — create new work on the spot. Raffles will offer a number of prizes from city businesses.
General admission is $10, and a portion of proceeds will purchase warm winter clothing for those in need.
A sweet show

Taking flight
Stop by the Joppa Flats Education Center to “Meet Backyard Birds” on Sunday mornings through Feb. 24.
From 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., bird-banding station manager Ben Flemer will show how he measures, weighs, examines and then releases wild birds captured in the yard at the center, 1 Plum Island Turnpike, Newburyport.
A band placed on each bird’s leg connects other bird researchers with the data that he’s collected.
Admission is free, but inclement weather will cancel. For more information, call 978-462-9998.
