The mega-concert that never was will be. Sort of.

Frank Sinatra and Barbra Streisand will take the stage in the persons of Sharon Owens and Sebastian Anzaldo at a tribute show next Saturday, Sept. 29, in Andover.

“It is music that will never grow old; it will last for years and years,” event coordinator Lori Smerdon said.

A number of tickets for “Barbra and Frank: The Concert That Never Was” sold soon after they went on sale in April, bought by fans who wanted to ensure a seat up front in the 1,200-seat Collins Center for the Performing Arts at Andover High School.

The evening of classic Streisand and Sinatra hits has been performed across the nation, including in New York City and Las Vegas.

Now in its 14th year, the signature NECC event benefits the Northern Essex Community College Foundation, the college’s endowment fund.

Previous shows have included the Edwards Twins and tributes to Paul McCartney and Elvis.

“We have people who come every year to support the college and our entertainment,” said Smerdon, who extended thanks to the event sponsors, including The Daily News sister newspaper The Eagle-Tribune, this year’s platinum sponsor.

Tickets will be available at the door. So far, more than 700 seats have been sold for the concert.

Sinatra and Streisand fans are among the most loyal followers.

One of them, a self-described Sinatra nut, Bob “Jocko” Arcidiacono, worshipped Sinatra. Still does. He has 140 Sinatra albums.

He remembers the date — March 19, 1986 — he met Sinatra at a private party in Swansea.

Arcidiacono, who hosts Jocko’s Jazz, a Tuesday night staple in Methuen, said that Sinatra and Streisand had different styles, but the dynamic would have been great had they performed together.

Their voices were paired on several duet recordings, though the parts were sang separately, at different locations.

Next week, they come together through the stylings of two who celebrate their mark on music.
