NEWBURY — Local writer Alfred Nicol has been named the winner of the Frost Foundation Prize, a prestigious award for poets.
Nicol, of Newbury, is a member of the local Powow River Poets. He was honored for a poem titled “Mid-November Guest House.”
The award, which comes with a check for $1,000, is given annually by the Robert Frost Foundation. That organization is based in Lawrence, where Robert Frost lived when he moved back to New England from San Francisco.
As part of his honor, Nicole will read at the Massachusetts Poetry Festival on Saturday, May 4, at 2:45 p.m. at the Old Town Hall, 32 Derby Square, Salem.
