AMESBURY – The 18 Scouts in Junior Troop 72016 will host the Girl Scout Ugly Sweater 5K on Dec. 15 at 9 a.m. at Woodsom Farm.
The girls, who have been in the troop since kindergarten and are now in fourth grade, have participated in many events, according to troop leaders Alissa Cronin and Shannon Asselin.
The girls have marched in Veterans Day, Memorial Day and holiday parades; helped with winter clothing drives each fall; and have held supply and food drives for Our Neighbors’ Table and for Towers of Gifts for Newborns in Need.
In addition, the Scouts have partnered with the Coastal Trails Coalition to conduct a spring cleanup of the riverwalk in Amesbury.
The Scout leaders said the girls are fundraising for a spring trip to Washington, D.C., and their big spring community service restoration project.
For the Ugly Sweater 5K, runners are encouraged to dig out an ugly sweater and sign up for the race. Tickets are $25 for an adult and a child; and $20 for an adult with no children.
The cost at the event will be $5 for additional children (13 and under). Every participant will be entered into drawings for raffles.
