AMESBURY – A local woman faces drunken driving and other charges after police say she crashed her Volvo into the yard of a Main Street home early Wednesday.

MacKenzie Heather Lee, 30, of 8 Carriage Hill Road, No. 1, Amesbury, was summonsed to court on the following charges: driving while under the influence of alcohol, three counts of vandalism, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and a marked lanes violation.

Several police officers, a fire engine and an ambulance responded to lower Main Street after the car crashed about 12:30 a.m. Lee was able to get out of the smashed car on her own, but was eventually taken by ambulance to the hospital, according to Amesbury firefighters.

Photos taken by firefighters and posted on the department’s Twitter account show heavy damage to the Volvo XC90. A rear passenger-side wheel was sheered off and there was front-end damage as well.

It is common practice for police to issue a court summons to someone injured in a car crash instead of arresting them.

In January, Lee was sentenced to a year’s probation after pleading guilty to assault and battery and disorderly conduct. If arraigned on the new charges, she could face a probation violation.
