AMESBURY –  LUNGSTRONG’s “Cheers For A Cure!” campaign, now in its 5th year, raised more than $10,000 for lung cancer research this summer.

Twenty-two restaurant partners in Amesbury, Newburyport, Haverhill and the Seacoast offered cocktails, smoothies and ice cream products between Memorial Day and Labor Day and donated a percentage of sales to LUNGSTRONG, a nonprofit founded by lung cancer survivor Diane Legg. All LUNGSTRONG funds are used to support innovative lung cancer research.

The Epoch at Exeter Inn raised the most money with its drink, the Summer Sizzle, by donating 50 percent of drink sales – to the tune of nearly $4,000. Newcomer West Row Café & Bar in Newburyport is selling an Antioxidant Martini and will donate 25 percent of sales through October. The Juicery in Newburyport participated in the campaign for the first time this summer and generated more than $700 through the sale of its “Blueberry Mint Smoothie” and Hodgies Too of Newburyport created a special LUNGSTRONG flavor enjoyed by ice cream fans this summer.

In Haverhill, Krueger’s Flatbreads raised $860 with sales of their LUNGSTRONG Luau Lemonade. Ristorante Molise of Amesbury, Phat Cats of Amesbury, Michael’s Harborside of Newburyport and the Epoch at the Exeter Inn all committed to minimum donations of $1,000 through the program this year.

“I’m so grateful for the participation of all our partner restaurants,” said LUNGSTRONG founder Diane Legg. “It is the combination of all of our fundraising efforts – the Pan-Mass Challenge bike ride, our annual Live It Up LUNGSTRONG dance party event, the LUNGSTRONG 5k run/1.5 mile walk event in the spring and Cheers to a Cure – that has allowed us to raise over $3 million for lung cancer research since 2011.”

This year, Amesbury partners included: Hodgies, the Bakehouse, the Coop, Ristorante Molise, Phat Cats, Crave, Flatbreads and the Barn. Newburyport partners are Michael’s Harborside, the Plum Island Grille, the Juicery, the Grog, Oreganos, Hodgies Too, the Thirsty Whale and the West Row Café & Bar. Haverhill partners are Kruegers Flatbreads and Butch’s Uptown, and Seacoast partners include the Epoch at the Exeter Inn, the Community Oven, the Goat and the Blue Ocean Music Hall.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in the world and kills more people than breast cancer, prostate cancer, colon cancer and pancreatic cancer combined.
