SALISBURY — Work at the Vaughn Corp. hot water heater factory was temporarily halted yesterday morning after a fire broke out inside one of the Old Elm Street company’s exhaust systems.
Local and Amesbury firefighters were required to take apart a portion of the system to remove a set of filters that caught on fire for unknown reasons, according to Salisbury fire Chief Richard Souliotis.
The fire, which triggered a master box alarm at 11:33 a.m., was contained to the unit and employees were able to return to work after firefighters exited the building around noontime.
Vaughn Corp. is located next to a section of the town’s rail trail that separates the building from a massive collection of solar panels. The company has been family-owned since the 1950s and also makes energy controllers that help regulate water heaters, according to the company’s website.
