NEWBURYPORT – Angus McQuilken, co-founder of the Massachusetts Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence, will discuss the scope of the gun violence problem in the U.S. and effective models for reducing gun violence Aug. 20 at the Indivisible-RISE Newburyport monthly meeting.
The meeting, free and open to the public, is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Central Congregational Church, 14 Titcomb St.
McQuilken’s talk aims to give people who attend an understanding of how to get involved in efforts to reduce gun violence. The Massachusetts Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence is the primary advocacy voice for strengthened gun laws in Massachusetts, according to a press release.
I-RISE carries out political action through several working groups run by its members, including a voter registration task force and legislative watch team that focuses on tracking local legislators’ sponsorship of, and positions on, bills at the Statehouse.
I-RISE holds a weekly drop-in action hour to boost voter engagement at the national level on Fridays from 4 to 5 p.m. at Commune Café, 33 Pleasant St.
