Thomas Hale (1606-82) and his wife, Thomasine Dowsett, came to New England in 1637 and purchased a house on Newbury Neck in 1652. About 1656, Hale moved to Salem, where he was listed as a glover. In 1660, he sold the Newbury property to his son Thomas. The next year, the elder Hale returned to Newbury and spent the rest of his life at the family home with his son.
