On Jan. 12, 1726, Rev. Moses Hale of Byfield preached at Newbury’s Third Parish Meetinghouse, then located in Market Square. According to historian John J. Currier, the church was “a commodious structure, sixty feet in length and forty-five feet in breadth, with a steeple on the end confronting the river and the pulpit at the opposite end.”
