At the height of his career, merchant Nathaniel Tracy (1751-1796) owned 24 privateers and 110 merchant vessels and their cargoes. Among his properties were a Cambridge estate and the Spencer-Peirce house and farm in Newbury. His privateers captured 120 vessels and sold $3,950,000 in confiscated cargoes; at the end of the war, he had only 13 ships left.
