At a meeting of selectmen May 3, 1764, at Wolfe Tavern, Capt. William Davenport, Henry Chipman and a Newburyport constable were ordered to go to the "new hospital recently erected in the great pasture in Newbury" to see if Joseph Marquand and Henry Hudson, recently been inoculated with “the smallpox,” were in a condition to return to their families.
