AMESBURY — A staple of the Point Shore area for more than four decades, Larry’s Marina was sold late last year, but the new owner is promising a new and improved boating and possibly dining experience.
According to the Essex County Registry of Deeds, 14 Merrimac St. LLC purchased the 1.55 acre property for $1.84 million on Oct. 30 from Larry’s Marina Inc.
ARC Technologies founder Dan Healey is listed as the company’s officer and confirmed Friday that he bought Larry’s and, while he did not want to get into specifics yet, he promised “a full, first class operating marina” is on its way to Amesbury.
“It will be a top-of-the-line marina,” Healey said. “It is still early in the game but there will be a lot of facets and perhaps a restaurant. But we will need to get the neighborhood’s support.”
Healey said he has been meeting with Mayor Kassandra Gove and Nipun Jain, the city planner, and expects to make his plans for the property public soon.
According to the assessor’s database, the property actually stands at 2 Merrimac St. It was previously owned by Larry’s Marina Inc. and assessed for $1.91 million for Fiscal Year 2020.
Lawrence M. Kelcourse is listed as president of Larry’s Marina Inc., which bought the property in late 1975. Larry’s Marina Inc. sold it to Healey’s company in October 2019.
A temporary sign on the side of one building identifies the property as The Marina at Amesbury Point. The 67,518-square-foot lot includes two warehouses, a club/lodge, a Cape Cod-style home and 3,000-square-feet of Merrimack River dockage.
The marina is a short distance from Hatter’s Point, a high-end condominium project for residents 55 and older that opened in the former Merrimac Hat Factory, and a new wing completed last year. That development includes Hatter’s Point Marina, a 135-slip marina on the Merrimack across from Maudslay State Park.
