NEWBURYPORT — Thanks to a generous grant from the NAID Foundation (Newburyport Area Industrial Development), the Newburyport Public Library has completed the first phase of digitizing the microfilm of the library’s local historical newspapers.
Digitized issues of the Newburyport Daily Herald and other local papers dated from 1799 to 1901 are now available online from the library’s website.
Select “Archival Center” or “Online Resources” from the library website homepage (www.newburyportpl.org) to access this new resource.
You can search the digitized newspapers in three ways: by year, title, or using a keyword search term. Need help? Call 978-465-4428, ext. 242 or stop by the second-floor Reference Desk to learn more about using the digitized newspaper collection.
The next phases of the project will digitize the microfilm of local newspapers from the 1700s and early 1900s.
