NEWBURYPORT – Local artist Sara Demrow Dent was awarded the Sam Sargent Best in Show award for her acrylic “The Wish” in Part 2 of the Newburyport Art Association’s Fall Members Juried Show, which opens Friday.

The artwork was judged by Lauren O’Neal, director and curator of the Lamont Gallery, Phillips Exeter Academy.

The show features acrylic, fine crafts, mixed media, pastel and photography and will be on view through Nov. 23 at the NAA, 65 Water St. There will be an opening reception Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Awards will be announced at 7. The reception is free and open to the public. All artwork is for sale.

NAA Director Jessica Pappathan said there were 204 works submitted for judging, with 123 selected for the show.

Vigilant Capital Management Best in Fine Crafts: Lee Gordon, “Colbalt and Soul,” blown glass.

Minute Man Press, Newburyport, Best in Mixed Media: Sandra Turner, “An Afternoon Nap,” mixed media.

Matter Communications Best in Pastel: Tom Bailey, “Threads,” pastel.

The H. Patterson Hale Jr. Charitable Foundation Best in Photography: David Stone, “Heron at Sunrise,” photograph.

NAA gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m., and closed Mondays.
