NEWBURYPORT — An oil still life by artist Dorothy Lorenze was chosen this week for the Sam Sargent Best in Show Award in the first part of the Newburyport Art Association’s Winter Member Juried Show.
Lorenze’s “Dutch Apple Still Life” was picked for the award by juror James Craig, executive director of the Rockport Art Association.
Other award winners in the NAA art show are:
Strem Chemicals Best in Printmaking Award: Chris Robinson, untitled, etching with silkscreen.
Dore & Whittier Architects Best in Drawing Award: Noriko Fox, Male, charcoal.
Institution for Savings Charitable Foundation Best in Oil Award: Hillary Scott, “A June Afternoon,” oil.
The Hemphill Family Foundation Best in Sculpture Award: Justin Gordon, “Christmas Elf,” carved in basswood and painted with acrylic, sculpture.
The H. Patterson Hale, Jr. Charitable Foundation Best in Watercolor Award: Susan Kneeland, “Back Street Blues,” watercolor.
Matter Communications Best in Fine Crafts Award: Cheryl Miller, “Enchanted Forest,” fabric collage.
Honorable mentions include:
Oil: Susan Spellman, “Farm Geometry,” oil.
Sculpture: Pete Spampinato, “Reflections,” acrylic resin.
Watercolor: Madeline Hopkins, “Olde Stone, Winter,” watercolor.
The Winter Members Juried Show, Part 1, is on display along with the Education Program Exhibition featuring 2019 work of instructors and students through Feb. 1.
An opening reception, sponsored by Dore & Whittier and open to the public, will be Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the NAA, 65 Water St. Awards will be presented during the reception. All artwork is for sale.
NAA gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
