NEWBURYPORT – Jordan Thornlow of the Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund of Massachusetts will give an overview of the ROE Act, a bill being considered by the Massachusetts Legislature, at the Indivisible-RISE Newburyport monthly meeting Tuesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
The meeting will be at Central Congregational Church, 14 Titcomb St., and is open to the public. “The bill aims to protect and expand access to safe and legal abortion here in the Bay State,” Thornlow said. “In a moment of unprecedented attack on reproductive health and rights at the federal level and across the country, Massachusetts has an opportunity to lead in expanding access to reproductive health care.”
The Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund of Massachusetts is an ancillary organization of the Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts that is focused on electoral and legislative work.
I-RISE carries out political action through several working groups created and run by its members, including a voter registration task force and legislative watch team, which focuses on tracking local legislators’ sponsorship of and positions on bills in the Statehouse.
The goal is to help people become politically active. I-RISE holds two weekly drop-in action hours that aim to boost voter engagement at the national level on Thursdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Fridays from 4 to 5 p.m. at Commune Café, 33 Pleasant St.
