NEWBURYPORT – As more people embrace environmental sustainability, the city’s Recycling & Energy Department is inviting businesses and residents on Tuesday to hear how the pieces come together for homes and businesses that rely solely on renewable energy.

The “Home Energy 101” series at Newburyport Public Library will show how solar works and introduce the trend toward whole house electrification as a way to break away from using fossil fuels.

The presentation, which starts at 7 p.m. in the Program Room, concludes with electric vehicle test drives from 8 to 9 p.m. The test drives require advance sign-up.

Local ReVision Energy customers will talk about how they conserve excess energy from the solar panels that heat and cool their homes, using battery storage as an alternative to selling it back to the grid. They are improving their home’s resiliency in a grid outage. A sample Tesla Powerwall battery will be on display.

A battery professional will describe how heat pumps, electric vehicles and battery storage are the perfect complements in a solar-powered home for whole house electrification.

Some people in Massachusetts are eligible for significant financial incentives from MassCEC for installing solar that converts sunlight into electricity. ReVision is one of Massachusetts’s only certified Tesla Powerwall installers.
