NEWBURYPORT — Members of a North Shore group say they will be calling on Gov. Charlie Baker to denounce propaganda used by the MassGOP to target legislators on Beacon Hill who support the ROE Act Monday afternoon.

The protest, led by Freedom North Shore, was scheduled take place at today's ribbon cutting for the city's new parking garage at the corner of Merrimac and Titcomb Streets. Locals are asked to gather at 4:30 p.m., when the ceremony is scheduled to begin.

Freedom North Shore, according to its website, is a small group of North Shore citizens working to ensure the health and well-bring of women, children and families in Massachusetts by promoting awareness of pertinent issues facing communities, inspiring support for those issues and providing education about related legislation.

According to a press release, the group is "dismayed to see the Massachusetts Republican Party spreading lies and propaganda targeting elected Democrats on Beacon Hill," adding members of the MassGOP are using "loaded words" like "infanticide" and "baby killer" while displaying photos of legislators who have signed on in support of the ROE Act (an act to "Remove Obstacles and Expand Abortion Access"), which is currently before the Legislature. The act would reform the state's abortion laws to ensure access to legal abortions for people of any age, income or access to insurance.

The group is calling on the Republican governor to use his position to make a public statement denouncing the ads and to "stand up for what is right and to stand up for the truth," according to a press release.
