NEWBURYPORT — The 24th annual Newburyport High School Alumni Reunion was held on Thursday, July 29, in the Clipper Cafe of NHS. Honored this year were the classes of 1940 (70th), 1950 (60th), 1960 (50th) and 1970 (40th).
Alumni Association President Janet Webster Sheehan (1947) welcomed the alumni and guests, then acknowledged members present from NHS 1940: Ralph Ayers, George Andrews, Frank Miller and Evelyn Southwell Webber; from NHS 1950: Patricia Hanson Brugh, Peg Fuller Taranda, Doug MacBurnie, Doris Dumont and Florence Pante Owsiak; from NHS 1960: Nancy Kent White, Sally Palis, Carole Phillips, Kathy Fournier Gagne, Marjorie Hampe Densmore and Judy Packer Kennedy; from NHS 1970: Lynne Potter Walker. The oldest alumnus was John Lagoulis, NHS 1937, and the youngest was Jane Powers Lemuth, NHS 1988. Twenty-one classes were represented from 1938 to 1988.
Also recognized were members of 1963 for their 47-year reunion celebrating their 65th birthdays, 1943 planning a reunion, 1951 planning their 60th reunion for 2011, 1961 planning their 50th reunion in July, 2001, also 1965 having their 45th reunion, 1959 reunion celebrating all turning 70, 1975 having their 35th reunion this fall, 1990 having their 20th reunion, 1947 having their 63rd reunion on July 27 and the class of 1980 celebrating their 30th reunion recently.
Sheehan asked for roll call of all alumni in attendance, after which the student body stood and joined in singing the Alma Mater.
The group then enjoyed light refreshments, socializing and renewing old acquaintances. Members of the Alumni Association provided refreshments and decorated the cafe.
