AMESBURY – Troop 4 Boy Scouts recently celebrated a parent’s night and Court of Honor presenting the troop’s new yearly program and awarding Scouts their achievements.
After an opening ceremony led by Senior Patrol Leader Garrett Kahn, Scoutmaster Ron Fuller spoke of the troop’s yearly program. It included many subjects to be covered at weekly meetings, including many of the typical Boy Scout activities such as camping, cooking, first aid, lifesaving and fire building.
But Fuller also shared some unusual subjects, such as beekeeping, realistic first aid, hazardous weather camping safety, scuba diving and tin can cooking. Campouts for the year will include some themed events, including the “Caveman Campout” using survival skills, the “Pig Out” — a cooking delight weekend, a bike hike on the Cape and a couple of day hikes.
The troop presented progress awards, including the Scout Award to Robbie Davidson, Second Class to Ryan Cusick, Star rank to Andrew Freeman, and Life awards to Garrett Kahn and Bryan Corneau.
There was also a special mention of Alex McDougall recently passing his Eagle Scout Board of Review. He will be given his award at a ceremony later in the year.
Special awards were also given out. Robbie Davidson was presented his Totin’ Chip and Brownsea Adventure certificate; Garrett Kahn received his National Leadership Training Award; and advanced snorkeling, advanced kayaking and advanced scuba awards went to Andrew Freeman and Bryan Corneau.
Evan Fowler received first place in a shotgun competition. Many of the Scouts were also presented the Cyber Chip Award, recognizing them for completing a safety course in computer etiquette.
Merit badges were presented by Assistant Scoutmaster Josh Huston.
