NEWBURYPORT – Newburyport Public Library was able to install a combination water bottle filler-drinking fountain and continued the digitization of microfilm of The Daily News for a two-decade period last year, thanks to grants from two local institutions.

Library officials thanked the Institution for Savings Charitable Foundation for its generosity in supporting numerous projects. Most recently, the foundation donated $2,000 for installation of the fountain in the reference/teen area.

The ongoing project to digitize Daily News microfilm for easier, long-term access completed issues from 1956 through 1974, thanks to a $10,395 contribution from the Institution for Charitable Savings Foundation.

The Newburyport Area Industrial Development Foundation donated $10,200 to digitize issues dated 1975 through 1979, with expected completion in March. The NAID Foundation has a history of many years of funding support for Newburyport Public Library projects.
