WEST NEWBURY — Two new faces are coming to the town's Finance Department this fall.
Town Manager Angus Jennings announced this week the hiring of Stephanie Frontiera of Essex as town accountant/business manager and Jennifer Walsh of Tewksbury as assistant to the town manager and the Finance Department.
The two positions are a result of a reorganization within the department and their creation brings staff back up to the same level as when Jennings was hired in 2018. The department has been running shy of one full-time position since April 1, and operating without two full-time positions since former town accountant Laurie Zywiak left Sept. 26.
Frontiera, who begins her three-year term Nov. 4, was previously the town accountant in Ipswich. She holds a bachelor of science degree in business management from Westfield State College.
Frontiera, who will earn $97,614 a year, is responsible for “the development, operation and maintenance of financial information and internal control systems for the town,” according to the job description.
She will handle accounting operations — all town receipts, disbursements and other accounting transactions — and is the “custodian for all original copies of contracts, including insurance policies” from the other municipal departments. The selectmen appoint the post, but Jennings will provide day-to-day oversight.
Walsh has more than 30 years of office administration and bookkeeping experience. She attended Aquinas Junior College and The American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers. She is slated to begin her 40-hour-per-week position Oct. 21, earning $30.71 per hour.
She most recently served as the payroll and account specialist for the treasurer’s office in Tewksbury. Walsh’s role will be to support Jennings, the Finance Department and the town accountant, and to offer limited support to the town clerk’s office.
