MERRIMAC – A pickup rolled over on East Main Street early Saturday, killing the driver, identified by police as a Salisbury man.

Police Chief Eric Shears and Fire Chief Larry Fisher reported their departments responded to the single-vehicle crash at 4:55 a.m. Saturday.

When the first police officer arrived he found a Chevy Silverado pickup  rolled over on its roof, and saw a man, who had been thrown from the driver’s side, laying face down next to the truck. The Merrimac Fire Department arrived to treat the man but determined he had died from his injuries.

Officers saw that the truck had struck the guardrail on the front passenger side at 101 East Main St (Auto Alliance) and rolled over, coming to rest on its roof on the guardrail by the Brox Company entrance, according to a press release.

The vehicle is registered to an address in Salisbury. The identity of the victim was being withheld pending notification of his family.

The crash is under investigation by the Merrimac Police Department with the assistance of the Massachusetts State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit and State Police detectives assigned to the Essex County District Attorney’s Office.
