Salisbury remembers 9/11 with field of flags on Common

Salisbury’s 9/11 memorial service Saturday on the Salisbury Common featured 2,977 American flags, purchased by the Salisbury Lions Club, with each flag representing each victim of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The flags are displayed on five sections of the common – one section for the victims of American Airlines Flight 11, which struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center; one for the victims of United Flight 175, which struck the South Tower; one for the victims of American Flight 77, which struck the Pentagon; one section for victims of United Flight 93, which crashed in Pennsylvania; and one section for the firefighters, police officers, New York Port Authority employees and first responders who died on 9/11.
