To the editor:
The second AEFI Alumni and Friends Pub Crawl lived up to its reputation as a FUNdraiser, thanks to the generous support of our downtown establishments, volunteers, “pub crawlers” and generous donors. On behalf of Amesbury Educational Foundation Inc., we want to acknowledge and thank our supporters.
First, the Polish Club offered to be our home base, generously providing its hall and front lot for registration, and then a starlit place to return to dance to the Buckley Brothers. This new entertainment was sponsored by Newburyport Bank providing a terrific opportunity for crawlers to continue the fun into the evening, while Howie McIntyre grilled refreshments.
We are grateful to the establishments that opened their doors for the Pub Crawl, including The Barn, Barking Dog, Crave, Sky Hi, the Ale House, Flatbread Company and Fortune Bar. Each of these establishments provided specialty “signature beverages” and snacks for the crawlers who rotated among them. The pub crawlers enjoyed each location, and visited some that they had never tried before as well as their old favorites.
The Pub Crawl is not only an opportunity for alumni to return for a reunion, or for friends to enjoy themselves; it’s also an opportunity to introduce AEFI’s mission as a nonprofit to support Amesbury Public Schools. Proceeds from the Pub Crawl benefit the AEFI Alumni Fund, established last year to support Amesbury’s high schools, providing an opportunity for classes and individuals to “give back” to their schools.
This year, a number of sponsors joined us as benefactors of the event. We especially thank Morrill Electric, Merrimack Valley Animal Hospital, I.D. Cronin and Sons, Salter Transportation, and the AHS Class of 2019 as lead sponsors.
We also thank 1st Payroll Inc., Amesbury Foreign Auto, Hodgies Too, Salisbury, Laurie H. Knapp CPA PC, Andyman Dessert & Baking Company, Supercuts of Amesbury, and CommSat IT & Technical Services. The Class of 1959, Creative Touch Designs, McPartland Corp., Kevin J. Greaney Materials and Trucking, and Shea Concrete Products also contributed sponsorships. Their generosity is appreciated with gratitude.
AEFI’s mission is to support innovative, creative, challenging projects or programs that broaden and enrich educational opportunities for students and educators by supplementing public funding. The next opportunity to support AEFI will be the Autumn Evening of Giving at Ristorante Molise on Monday, Oct. 28, at 6:30 p.m.
AEFI will announce the Peter Gray Friend of Education Award, as well as winners of AEFI fall grants, including the Sgt. Jordan M. Shay Memorial Grant. Tickets are on sale on aefionline.com, where you may also learn more about AEFI.
