To the editor:

Right now, we are in the midst of a climate crisis. The Earth’s overall temperature is rising, causing extreme weather, flooding and serious health issues.

But luckily, there is a solution to this crisis. It’s called the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act.

This act was introduced in the House of Representatives last January with bipartisan support. This bill will place a starting price of $15 per metric ton on fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas.

Then, this fee would rise by $10 each year. This would push for businesses to use less fossil fuels and start the change to clean energy sources.

The other half of this act would also see this money collected from the fee be returned to households equally each month. This would drive households to use this money to find cleaner energy sources themselves.

In order to solve our climate crisis, we need to implement the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act to place a price on pollution.
