Registration for the Newburyport Pioneer League's 2011 Spring season is open. This program supports male and female youngsters in the sports of baseball (players who will reach the age of 6 years on or before April 30, 2011) and softball (for players who will reach the age of 7 years on or before Aug. 31, 2011). Newburyport girls varsity basketball coach Gregg Dollas and assistant coach Mark Rowe will be running a series of Saturday morning basketball clinics for girls in grades 4-8. The clinics, which will teach the fundamentals of basketball including dribbling, shooting, passing and defense, will be held on the following Saturdays from 8-9:30 a.m. at the Newburyport High gym: Dec. 18; Jan. 8,15, 22, 29; and Feb. 5. The Newburyport Youth Soccer Association has opened spring registration at www.newburyportsoccer.com. Registration closes Dec. 31, however, player limits for age groups may be met earlier, at which point, players will be placed on the waiting list.
Winner' Circle Running Club Winter Running offers three regular training sessions for runners of all abilities every Thursday (5:30 p.m.) from Winner's Circle Sports Bar. The runs will be 3 to 8 miles. Indoor Track workouts go for six weeks on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. beginning Jan. 18. The fee varies with coaching available. The Graf Rink is accepting applications for its fall Learn to Skate and Tiny Tots programs. Classes will run during the day or in the evenings on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
